HARLEY DAVIDSON and New Model Launch 2010

Harley Davidson is a little bit light on, in it’s 2010 Model line-up (lousy joke) with no less than nine new models we can swing a leg over. This is unprecedented, and represents the largest model introduction in Harley-Davidson's long history.

Harley-Davidson's entry level starts out with no less than a total of five models all priced around, or just under $10k.
Naturally if you have the dosh, and might want to splurge, then you can try four new models from their Custom Vehicle Operations Group and drool over no less than a CVO Fat Bob, CVO Softail Convertible, CVO Street Glide and just the epitome of Harley-Davidson, the top end CVO Ultra Classic Electra Glide. These models will only set you back between $25k to $36K not much if it’s what you want, and Harley have the lot.
Yeah, yeah OK, there are models in between these price brackets including the great old American V-Twin. Check out the photo gallery that I found on the following web site, with the best photo line up Harley-Davidson could muster at :-

Motor Klasik Yang Banyak Dilirik

Reporter : Farma Dinata - Hengki Wiramada/Damar Galih

indosiar.com - Buat kaum pria motor itu tidak sekedar hanya kendaraan, tapi juga buat bergaya. Tidak percaya nih.. Nah lihat yuk tongkrongan para pecinta motor klasik yang memang layak diliput ini.

Sebagaimana barang produksi masa lalu, motor antik pun punya penggemar tersendiri.

Nah.. umumnya para pecinta motor antik berkumpul membentuk club !

(Dv/Ijs)

GPS Navigation : Portable GPS Navigation Systems

GPS Navigation systems
are an essential tool for the regular driver. In-car navigation systems come standard on many vehicles, but for those that do not have them there are many aftermarket GPS navigation systems. Portable GPS Navigation systems work in your car, or can be unplugged and taken with you outside your vehicle.

Nobody likes to get lost. Let alone when you're miles from anywhere – way out in the boonies with a minivan full of tired and hungry kids yelling every eight seconds “Are we there yet? How much farther is it? Are we there yet? I have to go p...” Strike a nerve, have I?

Face it, long have you dreamed of the day when you can (after safely pulling over to the shoulder and parking your vehicle) turn around and say... “Actually, we're exactly 11.2 miles from our destination with an estimated time of arrival in 15 minutes at our current velocity. Barring unforeseen circumstances such as urinating on your brother, we will be at grandma and grandpa's house soon.”

Well, you can!

WHAT IS GPS?

Modern GPS technology has roots dating back to Cold War times. In fact, the U.S. Department of Defense (D.O.D.) began its development in 1973 for military purposes, launching its first Navigation Signal Timing and Ranging Global Positioning System (NAVSTAR GPS) satellite in 1978.

Before becoming operational in 1993, U.S. and allied troops relied heavily on experimental GPS technologies to navigate the vast barren Arabian Desert during the first Gulf War. And, after more than two decades of research, development and execution, the NAVSTAR GPS network constellation met its “fully operational” requirements in the spring of 1995. It continues to play a significant role in delivering real-time military intelligence for forces operating anywhere in the air, on the ground and on the water.

Master control falls to the U.S. Air Force's 50th Space Wing, which is responsible for monitoring and controlling two dozen satellites that speed around the Earth at over 12,550 mph on six different orbits every 12 hours. The massive amount of data is transmitted, collected, filtered and distributed around the clock by five ground-based monitoring stations and four antennas located around the world.

The prime directive for the NAVSTAR GPS network is to provide positioning, navigation, timing and velocity information worldwide. On top of countless homeland security and international defense applications, there are many commercial and civilian uses for GPS navigation ranging from search and rescue, surveying, exploration and cartography to resource tracking, vehicle location systems, for example.

HOW GPS WORKS

Though there are countless uses for GPS technology, the fundamentals are pretty much the same. Before understanding how it all works, it's important to distinguish between the two levels of service GPS provides.

The first is an encoded Precise Positioning Service (PPS) that's intended for D.O.D. use and available to authorized users only. There is also a Standard Positioning Service (SPS) for general public use that is free for all peaceful civil, commercial and scientific use on a perpetual worldwide basis.

Coverage is global and both services run 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The main difference is that SPS signal accuracy is intentionally degraded to protect U.S. national security interests through a process called selective availability that “controls the availability of the system's full capabilities.”

As a result, SPS is only accurate to within 100 meters horizontally, 156 meters vertically and 340 nanoseconds. That is, SPS is 95 percent accurate with a position dilution of precision (PDOP) of six or less whereas the PPS service is more like 99.9 percent accurate.

CIVILIAN GPS DEVICES

The GPS network is designed to provide positioning, navigation, timing and velocity information for users at any time, any place.

To take advantage of this free worldwide navigational aid, you'll need a device with the ability to receive, decode and display GPS information so it can be put to use. The only other prerequisite in determining your location and other data (accurately), is to have an unobstructed wide open view of the sky.

The reason for this is because GPS devices need to be able to acquire signals from at least four of these satellites in order to give an accurate 3D fix complete with average speed, directional heading and elevation. Fortunately, the NAVSTAR GPS network is designed to ensure there are no fewer than six birds in the sky that can be reached at any given point in time with four more on standby.

GPS receivers constantly recalculate this data to tell you precisely where on Earth you are relative to the position of the satellites above, allowing you track your current whereabouts, heading speed and even altitude in real-time.

The GPS device compares this latitude, longitude and other precise information to known map coordinates, which either came preloaded on the device itself or are stored/accessed via some other kind of storage media such as CD, DVD or HDD (hard disk drive).

Most consumer GPS devices communicate with these satellites using a 12-channel receiver and antenna. An onboard CPU is necessary to process and display this data. The speed of the processor along with the quality of the receiver and quality of the signal itself all have an impact on how long it takes to acquire a solid fix.

Every time you turn on a GPS device it goes though a process called cold-starting, which can take up to several minutes to run through startup tasks and acquire a strong signal with the satellites. In the event the signal is lost or interrupted, it usually takes just a few seconds to reestablish a connection with the satellites after that. This can happen when you drive through a city with many tall buildings, heavily-wooded areas and/or through a tunnel, for example.

Good quality receivers should be able to reconnect almost instantaneously while weaker units may need more time to reacquire a signal. A clear view of the sky is important when it comes to GPS navigation. That said, the location of the antenna has a big influence on how well it works.

Ideally, the antenna should be as close to the front of the vehicle as possible with as much of the sky in view as possible. Most factory-installed in-dash navigation systems will use either a dash- or roof-mounted antenna.

Mounting consideration must be given to portable units so as to ensure their effectiveness. Suction cup type mounting brackets are fairly common, but any type of mounting solution that will allow a wide sky view through the front windshield is ideal. Some units may have a built-in antenna while others may use external antennas that may need special care and/or further installations.

In general, users should avoid mounting a GPS device down low on the center console since the signal quality will be significantly lower here in the bowels of the interior than up near the windows.

We've just finished covering the basics of GPS navigation here, so let's move on to the different types of systems that are available and also look at some of the important features.

Ford TSB on the ticking noise

6.4L DIESEL ENGINE TICKING / TAPPING NOISE
Publication Date: September 9, 2008
FORD:
2008 F-Super Duty
ISSUE:

Some 2008 F-Super Duty 250-550 vehicles equipped with a 6.4L diesel engines may exhibit a random engine ticking / tapping noise that is most noticeable when engine coolant temperature is 185 degrees F (85 degrees C) or higher and from base idle to approximately 1500 RPM. Some customers may complain that this noise becomes more evident after 3000-5000 miles have accumulated on the vehicle or after an engine oil change.

ACTION:
Follow the Service Information.
SERVICE INFORMATION

The ticking / tapping noise is most noticeable at the rear of the driver's side front wheel well. 6.4L Powerstroke Diesel engines exhibit this normal audible condition (some engines will exhibit greater audible noise due to engine build variations). 6.4L Powerstroke Diesel engines are manufactured to tight tolerances in order to meet strict durability and reliability standards.
This noise is caused by the relationship between engine block, crankshaft journals, bearing inserts and oil viscosity / film. This relationship allows a pulsation that resonates through the cylinder block and is heard as a metallic ticking noise. This condition is present on all diesel engines.

Technological improvements and overall noise reduction in today's diesel engines make this issue seem new when in fact it was masked by other noises on previous engines. Other engine manufacturers report similar conditions in their diesel engines. Vehicle testing and engine tear down analysis have confirmed this condition will not effect reliability or long term durability of this engine.
Dealers should not attempt to perform vehicle to vehicle noise comparisons. This may lead to incorrect conclusions and ineffective repairs.
NOTE: DO NOT ATTEMPT REPAIRS FOR THIS NORMAL NOISE CONDITION. REPLACING THE ENGINE OR INTERNAL COMPONENTS WILL NOT REDUCE OR ELIMINATE THE TICKING / TAPPING NOISE. PLEASE PROVIDE THIS BULLETIN TO CUSTOMERS THAT INQUIRE ABOUT THIS CONDITION.

1971 Ford Mustang Modified

The Ford Mustang Mach 1 was a performance model of the Ford Mustang that Ford produced beginning in 1969. The original production run of the Mach 1 ended in 1979 because the Mustang II coupe was being phased out in favor of newer Mustangs on the Fox body platform.

Regardless of the specific power plant, the lines of the 1969 Ford Mustang Mach 1 Fastback cannot be mistaken, nor underestimated. Conceived at what was arguably the height of Ford’s powers of concentration on the performance car market, and though the moment was ultimately to be short lived, the products of this brief time constitute among the most important and sought after vehicles of the entire muscle car movement.

Finished in painfully attractive Raven Black with exceptional red Corinthian vinyl interior, this astonishingly restored 1969 Ford Mustang Mach 1 Fastback has been completely rotisserie restored and features: Freshly rebuilt 351cid Windsor V8, with flat top pistons, new Holly carburetor, new Edelbrock intake, stock FMX automatic transmission, fresh bushings and suspension components, fresh interior, and more.

This remarkable Mach1 will be the centerpiece of any Mustang event, is in superb running order, and is as stunning in the garage as it is on the green, or in the valet parking lane. For those seeking among the most finely refinished Mach 1s available today, and a piece which will provide memories for your children like those provided for you—the moment has arrived. The Myth of the Simple Motorcycle

It seems a lot of people like the idea of a simple motorcycle, and I have felt the same myself. But is there any real reason why I would want one? I guess the assumption is that a simple motorcycle is also cheap, and can be repaired with bubble gum and a popsicle stick. It may also be lighter, and have fewer things that could go wrong with it.

I am torn between wanting a simple motorcycle, or wanting all the comfort and conveniences technology has to give. I already have one of the simplest motorcycles you could ever want, the Honda CD175. One set of points, one carburetor, four valves in all. Gravity feed fuel tank. It doesn't even have a paper oil filter to change, just a centrifugal cup inside the engine. The electrical system is simple enough that you could actually put the wiring diagram on one page.

It is one of those bikes, that one person could probably have a chance at understanding the entire thing if it was all taken apart. Even the carburetor and possibly the gearbox. Yet it works well, and can do 100 kph on the highway after forty years.

Compare that to some of the new motorcycles with electronic cruise control, radios, anti-lock braking, drive shafts, fuel injection, computer engine management, electronic ignition, satellite navigation systems, liquid cooling, even airbags. All covered by intricate plastic panels that take forever to get off and re-attach.

I love some of the instructions I find in the shop manual for my newer bikes. If I want to replace the clock on my BMW, first "Remove the front fairing". To adjust the valves on Mary Ann's Bergman 400, first "Remove the passenger backrest pad". I mean, come on. With the Honda CD175, I could swap in a reconditioned engine and transmission in the same amount of time. And I have two of those lying around. The first instruction in the CD175 shop manual to remove the engine is "Shut off the fuel cock at the tank".

My Kawasaki Vulcan is one of those motorcycles that have the appearance of simplicity. One front brake disk, without ABS. Only two cylinders. Superficially it is simple. Really nothing at all fancy or luxurious. Like the CD 175, it does not even have a tachometer. Unlike the Honda, it has a rev limiter so I don't really need the tachometer.

But the 2007 Vulcan has all the modern engine management stuff, like fuel injection and electronic ignition. Much of the complexity is hidden beneath the surface. Even the surface is hidden beneath the surface, as there is a plastic cover over the engine that looks like an engine.

As long as nothing fails, I don't care. In some ways it is less maddening than the CD175, which despite its simplicity, can develop weird intermittent problems that take days if not weeks to troubleshoot.

Finally, I think the appeal of the simple machine comes down to the satisfaction of understanding how it works. But there are some technological items now that I would not want to give up. Hydraulic disk brakes really stop your bike when you need them. Fuel injection burns more efficiently, and starts instantly even if the bike has been left standing for months. Electronic ignition never needs adjusting. Counter-rotating balance shafts help keep things from falling off your bike, and fillings from falling out of your teeth due to vibration. And these new technologies seem to not break down much either, at least not in my experience. So you give up, to some extent, the fun of constant maintenance, and the understanding that comes with it. And you substitute the fun of not having to understand it, so I guess you have more time to do other things like surf the Internet or maybe even do some riding.

Picture: The Ural Sahara motorcycle and sidecar. I don't think you can beat the Russians when it comes to making simple stuff that works, like the AK47 assault rifle. Even on their space capsules, they didn't take a ten million dollar urinal module, they just pissed out the window.

Apparently the Ural works, I never had one so I don't know. But I have read hilarious stories from Ural riders in the past. On one Iron Butt rally, a valve push rod broke, so the rider phoned the Ural mechanic who had flown in from Russia for support.
"How long will it take to get a new one?"
"You make one."
"What??? How do I do that?"
"Find metal. Make push rod."
He succeeded in doing it and finished the race. Notice: Finished, not won.

On another ride across Canada, a Ural was stranded and needed to be towed and repaired three times north of Lake Superior. The rider found it embarrassing that the same tow truck driver came all three times. ("American Borders" by Carla King) Apparently they work a lot better today.

Spare $15,000? Officially Licensed 1965 Ford Mustang Pool Table

Men love cars. Men like playing pool. It's easy to draw a simple conclusion: men would most likely love playing pool on a car. And that's how we imagine that the idea of creating a Mustang pool table was born. Made with a solid fiberglass body molded from a 1965 Mustang that can be ordered in various colors, the pool table comes complete with alloy rims and wheels.

Peugeot Reveals New Lion Emblem - Evolution of the Logo from 1847 to Today

Jean-Pierre and Jean-Frédéric Peugeot turned their father's cereal mill into a steel foundry and eventually, to a motorcycle and automobile manufacturer. In celebration of the firm's 200th anniversary, Peugeot has announced a new look for its cars - previewed through the SR1 Concept that will be revealed at the Geneva Show - and a new interpretation of its Lion emblem.

The updated Lion, which is now three-dimensional and looks more dynamic and supple, will make its vehicle debut on the new Peugeot RCZ sports coupe launched in the Spring. If you hit the jump, you can read about the birth and the evolution of the Lion emblem from 1847 to today.

From Peugeot Press Release:

The origin of the Lion

The Lion emblem was first conceived in 1847 when Jules and Emile PEUGEOT, who founded the company Peugeot Frères, asked Julien BLAZER, a jeweller and engraver, to produce a logo for identifying all PEUGEOT products.

The chosen design was a Lion, as the characteristics of the Lion were very similar to those of the saws the Peugeot brothers were producing:

Strong teeth like those of the Lion.

Suppleness of the blade like the Lion's spine.

Swiftness of cut like the Lion pouncing on its prey.

The Lion quickly became Peugeot's sole registered trade mark, and could be found not only on tools and saw blades, but also on coffee grinders by 1881 (the production of which began in 1840), on bicycles from 1882 and, from 1898, on motorcycles.

The Lion becomes a part of automotive history

Although the first Peugeot production car the Type 3, built by Armand PEUGEOT dates from 1891, it was only in 1906 that the emblem first appeared on a production car.

In 1910, the two entities (PEUGEOT Frères and Armand PEUGEOT) merged to become La Sté des automobiles et cycles PEUGEOT; the two product ranges, however, co-existed until the First World War.

The last car to display the "Lion walking on an arrow" was the Bébé Lion (designed by Ettore Bugatti), presented at the Paris Motor Show in October 1912.

Subsequent models, however, used old-style lettering, on the top of the radiator grille contained inside a double "ellipse", and in some instances with lettering also on the radiator, either on its own or in a coat of arms (from the 201).

In the 1920s the Lion became a rallying call for "Peugeotistes" who used it as a decoration on their radiator caps. Two types of radiator Lions were distributed in the network, a roaring version by the sculptor Marx and one ready to pounce by Baudichon.

For its part, Peugeot bicycles and motorcycles first used the Lion "walking on an arrow" emblem against the background of a spoked wheel; later a fighting Lion facing to the right was introduced in the 1920s and, finally, the same design but with upright lettering in 1960. Tools and domestic appliances opted for the Lion "walking on an arrow" in a coat of arms or on an oval plaque for coffee grinders.

From October 1933, with the launch of the "aerodynamic" range of Peugeot vehicles 201, 301 and 601, a Lion's head re-appeared on the top of the radiator grille.

This design also appeared on the 401, first seen at the 1934 Paris Motor Show and with a tapered head design on the 402 (1935) then the 302 (1936) and the 202 in 1938.

In 1948, the 203 adopted as its figurehead a Lion on the bonnet in a more prominent style. With the launch of the 403 in 1955 another new Lion appeared on the bonnet, however, these two designs were deemed too dangerous in the event of a collision and soon disappeared in September 1958.

The launch of the 203 also marked the first appearance of the heraldic Lion of Franche-Comté and the Duchy of Montbéliard.

It was attached to the boot lid until October 1952 and then migrated to the front of the bonnet from September 1958 until the end of the series in February 1960. During this period the heraldic Lion also appeared on PEUGEOT motorcycles.

The same design of the Lion was also placed in a small coat of arms in the centre of the radiator grille on the 403 range from April 1955 to 1966 before being replaced by a larger version, which first appeared on the Pininfarina styled 404, in May 1960.

It was then replaced by a Lion (gilt or chrome-plated) leaping from its background, which first appeared in September 1968 on the 504, then was adopted by the 404, 204, 304 and 104.

Another generation, the Lion "in outline" appeared on the 604 marketed in September 1975, and then extended to the 305 (November 1977) and 505 (May 1979) before being presented on a black background in 1982 on the 205, through to the 306 in 1993.

At its launch in October 1995, the 406 stood out with its large Lion emblem which rapidly migrated across the entire "six" generation models. This led in 1998 to a new look Lion, with a stylised, angular appearance that decorated the front and rear of both Peugeot cars and scooters.

Now in 2010, the Peugeot Lion, which has been associated with the brand for the last 152 years, has evolved again with a new more dynamic look. Combining a new bi-metallic finish it is now simpler in design, with a new posture and fluidity. The first production vehicle to display this new Lion will be the Peugeot RCZ which will be launched in April.
